Project Aura: Bike Safety Lighting System
May 31st, 2011Project Aura is actually a really good idea: rim-mounted LEDs that change colors based on how fast you ride—self-powered (by a front hub dynamo) to boot. It’s the brainchild of Ethan Frier and Jonathan Ota, industrial design students at Carnegie Mellon University who admirably addressed the issue of nighttime cycling accidents with an idea and a Small Undergraduate Research Grant (SURG).

The Burning House Blog
May 30th, 2011The latest “Objects laid out in photos” blog comes from New-York-based Foster Huntington, a man obsessed with “clothes, photography and American lifestyles.” Huntington’s Burning House blog asks creatives around the world, “If your house was burning, what would you take with you?”
The answers are a tad stilted, as most contain more than 15 items—that must be the slowest-burning fire ever—but interesting nonetheless, as it’s really a question of personal curation cloaked in a smokescreen of arson.
Jeffstaple presumes his building isn’t the only one burning and chooses a survivalist-based carry including an Eton self-powered radio and endurance gear. Brooklyn photographer Mikael Kennedy blends archival sentimentality (“Two bricks of the last Polaroid 779 batches ever made”) with the practical (“Harddrive with latest backup from computer.”) Australian designer Rohan L. Anderson brings a Nikon and a hunting rifle, enabling him to shoot both the disaster and looters.

Anatomy of a Mashup
May 29th, 2011Online visualizer reveals the intricacies of music mashups in real-time.
What started as an early-aughts gimmick led by 2manydjs has since morphed into a full-blown pop-culture phenomenon with party animals like Girl Talk disseminating their name-that-sample form of music far and wide. For multilayered tracks where the original samples become indistinguishable, Web Technologist Cameron Adams developed the Anatomy of a Mashup, breaking down his own creation “Definitive Daft Punk” as an example to “reveal its entire structure: the cutting, layering, levels, and equalization of 23 different songs.”

Dear Ms. Fox
May 25th, 2011Dear Ms. Fox,
Writing with my heart is hard, when it’s so disjointed.. All I know is that I love you. I want to spend my life with you. Ms Fox, if you read this, please don’t cry… You’ve kept me sane, you’ve kept me productive, and you’ve kept me close. I appreciate that – more than anything in the world. I know dreams are made-up, and hopes are fickle, but that doesn’t stop them from being about you. I hope to warm you with my embrace, and I dream of living together, happy, content, and with a pillow heated by your unmatched love. I want to do it all with you. Everything. I’m bad at math, but I’m hopeful in assuming me+you=love. I want nothing more than your perfection. I need your grace. Your warm embrace.
Attempted love. I don’t want to let you go. I don’t even know if I can. I would never purposely hurt anyone, but I feel like every time I take a step closer to my dreams, someone in my wake gets hurt. I see you and I think, “I need to stop.” But how can I possibly stop? I can’t just pretend I never want to see you again. I want to see your smile everyday, hear your voice, look into your eyes, and hold your hand. I want to be by your side. I want to see mirrored perspectives. I don’t want to make you sad, or loathing. I just want your love. But I know its not about me. It’s about you. I want to know your true feelings… Do I stand a chance of gaining your love? Can you bare to me the raw, unreflected emotion I have?
Can we ever be together?
With Endless Love,
Mr. Fox
San Pietro di Postiano
May 21st, 2011Il San Pietro di Positano looks breathtaking, and was a no brainer to follow up Giraffe Manor. Nestled into the luscious cliffs overlooking Positano’s bay is this beautiful 61 room luxury hotel. Looking through the pictures, the most alluring aspect is definitely being surrounded by the greenery and sea on all sides… perhaps a perfect escape!
