With a flick of her wrist, her smile disappeared quick and the ash fell down, down to floor. I sat staring at her as I always have before, letting forgotten promises wash over me. The table between us was no different from the thousands of miles of yesterday. I reached out my hand, grasping her fingers in mine.

“You came.” “I told you I would.” “Thank You.”

With that her smile returned, brighter than ever before. I knew then, that nothing would be the same.
